Further, the most beautiful, thickest and possibly tastiest sorbs are in the above mentioned village, <em>Agnana<\/em>, near Reggio Calabria. Herein this fruit is known only to people who have a certain age&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, at least 50% of the people even in Calabria not only have never tasted it, but they have never seen it either, so that it is often mistaken for a small apple; further, many&nbsp; people naturally do not know the times of his maturation or even the way of eating it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/smaf-ltd.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Sorbo-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2754\" width=\"660\" height=\"473\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.smaf-ltd.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Sorbo-2.jpg 494w, https:\/\/www.smaf-ltd.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Sorbo-2-300x215.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 660px) 100vw, 660px\" \/><figcaption><strong>Brown after maturation<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In fact, when the fruits are collect from the plant starting from the end of October, they are placed in a <strong>basket, <\/strong>made up of strips of intertwined<strong> canes<\/strong>, possibly together with straw, and when they became soft and changed in color,\u00a0 ros\u00e9 color or deep red or brown, it is the right time to consume them; then they can be brought closer to the lips and sucked, making with the fingers a slight pressure on the fruits. In fact, the peels cannot be eaten, as they are strongly astringent; from them comes out a sweet, creamy, slightly and pleasantly acidic content. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"http:\/\/smaf-ltd.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Sorbo-1-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2755\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.smaf-ltd.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Sorbo-1.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.smaf-ltd.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Sorbo-1-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.smaf-ltd.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Sorbo-1-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.smaf-ltd.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Sorbo-1-640x480.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption><strong>Change of colors during maturation<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Of course\ntoday the rowanberries are eaten in the same way, but they are no longer placed\nin the baskets of intertwined canes, but rather when they happen to be found by\nthose who know them, they are kept in normal containers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In fact,\nthis fruit has become very rare, present in some abandoned field, and is little\nknown, so that when someone not informed about the characteristics of the\nfruit, by looking at a plant, catches just some small fruits and tries to bite\nthem, he receives an unpleasant surprise, savoring something abominable in the\nmouth and that needs to be spit out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>FEATURES<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The plant grows quickly in the first years of life, then very slowly and to reach half a meter in diameter it takes more than a <em>hundred years<\/em>; fortunately, it grows spontaneously in the Mediterranean woods. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"745\" height=\"497\" src=\"http:\/\/smaf-ltd.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Sorbo-secular-tree.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2756\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.smaf-ltd.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Sorbo-secular-tree.jpg 745w, https:\/\/www.smaf-ltd.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Sorbo-secular-tree-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.smaf-ltd.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Sorbo-secular-tree-640x427.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 745px) 100vw, 745px\" \/><figcaption><strong>A magnificent old tree<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Its tree is compact, very heavy and resistant and has a very regular texture, so it is regularly used <strong>to make sculptures<\/strong>, especially saints, but also threaded logs for wine presses.
