It does so well in preventing and\ncombating a series of diseases that it must be considered as a <strong>drug<\/strong>. However, it must be taken and\nkept according to precise rules.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is in all the newspapers, that the <strong>US Food and Drug Administration<\/strong> (<strong>FDA<\/strong>), the strict government agency that monitors the regulation of food and pharmaceutical products, which will be distributed on American soil, has revisited the definition of extra virgin olive oil as a health food with medicine. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/smaf-ltd.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/HEALTHY-EVOO-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2622\" width=\"671\" height=\"358\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.smaf-ltd.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/HEALTHY-EVOO-2.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.smaf-ltd.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/HEALTHY-EVOO-2-300x160.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 671px) 100vw, 671px\" \/><figcaption><strong>EVOO is good for health<\/strong>!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Americans have not closed their eyes to the ever more numerous and solid scientific evidence of clinical efficacy of yellow gold or Mr. <strong>EVOO<\/strong> (as the Anglo-Saxon people kindly call it) in the prevention of lethal cardiovascular diseases and cognitive deficits typical of the elderly, in addition to than in reducing the risk of silent type II diabetes mellitus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Perhaps not everyone knows that the\ndaily intake of extra virgin olive oil is useful to reduce the risk of breast\ncancer thanks to its great anti-inflammatory and nutrigenomic properties. The\nAmericans did not need other evidence to proceed and, as often happens, they\npreceded the legislators of the old Mediterranean continent, where the olive\noil was born, home of the first olive tree crops (<em>Olea europaea<\/em>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recently, in fact, extra virgin olive oil has been rediscovered as a soothing ointment for the protection of the skin, thanks to its <strong>squalene<\/strong> content, from which it originates the most stable squalene (a saturated terpene hydrocarbon) widely used by cosmetics modern, but that&#8217;s another story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"536\" src=\"http:\/\/smaf-ltd.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/HEALTHY-EVOO-6-1024x536.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2621\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.smaf-ltd.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/HEALTHY-EVOO-6-1024x536.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.smaf-ltd.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/HEALTHY-EVOO-6-300x157.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.smaf-ltd.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/HEALTHY-EVOO-6-768x402.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.smaf-ltd.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/HEALTHY-EVOO-6-640x335.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.smaf-ltd.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/HEALTHY-EVOO-6.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption><strong>EVOO for cosmetics<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>HOW TO TAKE EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The FDA claim establishes that it is\nsufficient to ingest each day (and within a maximum of 12\/18 months from the\ndate of bottling of the product), 2 tablespoons (23 grams) of extra virgin\nolive oil (notoriously having an oleic acid content of between 70 and 80%), raw\nand cold-worked, to guarantee our body the intake of <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; At least 17.5 grams of <strong>oleic acid<\/strong>, an important\nmonounsaturated fatty acid from the omega 9 family, <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; 4.5 milligrams of <strong>vitamin E<\/strong>, a known liposoluble\nantioxidant, <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; 10 milligrams of effective <strong>polyphenols<\/strong> (including the oleocanthal,\ntyrosol, hydroxytyrosol and oleacein), powerful modulators of expression of\nepigenetic protective genes (which abound in specific olive varieties, such as\nthe <em>Apulian Coratina<\/em> and <em>Ogliarola<\/em>, the <em>Tuscan Maurino<\/em> and <em>Moraiolo<\/em>,\nthe <em>Spanish Cornicabra<\/em> and the <em>California Mission<\/em>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/smaf-ltd.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/HEALTHY-EVOO-7.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2623\" width=\"659\" height=\"612\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.smaf-ltd.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/HEALTHY-EVOO-7.jpg 580w, https:\/\/www.smaf-ltd.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/HEALTHY-EVOO-7-300x279.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 659px) 100vw, 659px\" \/><figcaption><strong>Good for diet&#8230;<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Although the courage to innovate speaks American, the scientific evidence supporting innovation also speaks Italian. In 2016 a group of researchers from the <em>Aldo Moro University of Bari<\/em> demonstrated that the single intake, of 50 milliliters (44 grams) of <strong>Coratina<\/strong> extra virgin olive oil in the morning, promotes the expression of microRNA. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is the smallest RNA in nature\nthat block the expression of specific genes, with anti-inflammatory\n(miR-23b-3p) and anti-tumor (miR-519b-3p) action, while inhibiting microRNA expression\npromotes the onset of insulin resistance (miR-107).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the moment, the US recognition to\nproperties of the EVOO is based on its high content of oleic acid and it could\nalso happen to other vegetable oils, such as the cheapest sunflower oil (oleic\nacid: 85-86%), obtained by extraction and chemical refining (which involves the\nuse of solvents), although without the precious polyphenols of extra virgin\nolive oil, but more stable and resistant than Mr. EVOO at high temperatures (as\nduring frying).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To those interested, it is good to\nremember that 23 grams of extra virgin olive oil guarantee the contribution of\njust over 200 calories. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Therefore, the EVOO should be the exclusive seasoning of a balanced and low-fat diet, such as the Mediterranean one or the DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension), to avoid an excessive intake of calories from fat. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"651\" src=\"http:\/\/smaf-ltd.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Genuine-Oil-3-1024x651.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1787\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.smaf-ltd.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Genuine-Oil-3-1024x651.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.smaf-ltd.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Genuine-Oil-3-350x223.jpg 350w, https:\/\/www.smaf-ltd.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Genuine-Oil-3-300x191.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.smaf-ltd.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Genuine-Oil-3-768x488.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.smaf-ltd.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Genuine-Oil-3-640x407.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.smaf-ltd.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Genuine-Oil-3.jpg 1340w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption><strong>Healthy and vegan<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Studies in support of the FDA\ndecision have been under the eyes of all for years and show that the\nreplacement in the diet of some saturated fatty acids, such as long-chain ones\n(for example, palmitic acid and myristic acid), with right doses of oleic acid\nand\/or polyunsaturated fatty acids (for example, omega 3), strongly reduces\nserum levels of total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol, among the main causes of\natherosclerosis. The effects on HDL cholesterol, however, are still to be\nverified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A MEDICINAL INSIDE A SALAD<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Conclusively, just a little extra\nvirgin olive oil is needed, because a mixed salad can become a more nutritious\nmeal that also helps to preserve the line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First we must remember that, with\nthe daily diet, it is necessary to absorb a bit of fat, to the extent of about\n30% of our daily caloric requirement. So then, out of 2000 Kcal, 30 grams of\nextra virgin olive oil represent the optimal intake, also by virtue of the\nperfect relationship between saturated and unsaturated fats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Considering the use of oil for the preparation of the evening meal, 10-15 grams of high quality extra virgin olive oil in the mixed salad for lunch is a good way to stay in shape without excessive sacrifice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" src=\"http:\/\/smaf-ltd.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/HEALTHY-EVOO-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2626\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.smaf-ltd.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/HEALTHY-EVOO-3.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.smaf-ltd.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/HEALTHY-EVOO-3-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption><strong>Science of EVOO<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>It happens because the high quality\nextra virgin olive oil, by virtue of its perfumes, accentuates the sense of\nsatiety, thus reducing the hunger that can induce to stray into the diet. The\nsame contribution of extra virgin, according to a research by the <em>Technische Universit\u00e4t of Munich<\/em> in\ncollaboration with the University of Vienna, reduces the absorption of sugars\nby the liver acting simultaneously on the blood sugar levels, helping to lower\nit less rapidly and consequently making the sense of hunger less rapid. A\ndouble beneficial effect important for the health and maintenance of the line,\nso that the researchers, at the end of the experiment, have really recommended\nthe extra virgin for low calorie diets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not only that, oil is a carrier for\nthe absorption of fat-soluble vitamins. The fat-soluble vitamins are those that\ndissolve in fats (vitamins A, D, E and K). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Only vitamin D can be synthesized by our body with exposure to sunlight, while the others must be introduced with food. Vitamin A is found mainly in green leafy vegetables (along with C and K). Yellow-orange or dark green fruits and vegetables such as carrots, squash, broccoli, spinach, apricots, melon and papaya (which are rich in beta-carotene). Adequate amounts of vitamin E are present in olive oil and vegetable oils in general, wheat germ, whole grains, green leafy vegetables and nuts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"660\" height=\"365\" src=\"http:\/\/smaf-ltd.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/HEALTHY-EVOO-4.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2627\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.smaf-ltd.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/HEALTHY-EVOO-4.jpg 660w, https:\/\/www.smaf-ltd.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/HEALTHY-EVOO-4-300x166.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.smaf-ltd.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/HEALTHY-EVOO-4-640x354.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 660px) 100vw, 660px\" \/><figcaption><strong>Consolidated tests promote EVOO consumption<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>All this makes it clear how\nimportant extra virgin olive oil is for the absorption of vitamins, which,\nalthough present in salad vegetables, would not be absorbed by our intestines\nwithout a bit of good fat: precisely the extra virgin olive oil olive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>OTHER EVIDENCE<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How exactly does extra virgin olive\noil affect your body? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First, it keeps <strong>cholesterol<\/strong> levels in the blood at bay. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It therefore helps you to prevent <strong>heart attacks and strokes<\/strong>, as also\nshown by a study published in 2011 in the journal Neurology, by the American\nSociety of Neurology. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The olive oil in fact is able to\nincrease a blood protein, the ApoA-IV, which prevents a<strong>bnormal coagulation of the platelets<\/strong>, as researchers at Saint\nMichael&#8217;s Hospital in Toronto discovered on September 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Further, the EVOO is in fact an <strong>anti-aging food<\/strong>, rich in vitamin E and\nother antioxidants that fight the formation of free radicals. Once digestion\nbegins, on the other hand, it reduces the secretion of gastric acids and therefore\nthe danger of ulcers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What seems strange, after having\ntaken note of all its properties, is not so much that the oil has become a drug\nfood, but that before it was a victim of <strong>prejudices\nand sales restrictions<\/strong>!!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>25.9.2019 The Food and Drug Administration has revised the definition of this food.
