This explains why many of us are forced to turn to the large-scale retail trade, with all the pitfalls and possible frauds that involve this product in particular. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"770\" height=\"416\" src=\"http:\/\/smaf-ltd.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Olive-oil-fraud-1.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2226\"\/><figcaption><strong>Difficult to understand&#8230;<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Let&#8217;s try then to\nunderstand how to defend ourselves from fraud or counterfeiting and above all\nto add some tools that allow us to choose a good oil, clean, fair and above all\nhealthy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, we refer you\nto the following technical notes that help us understand what we mean, in\nCalabria, with the expression &#8220;first cold pressed&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>\u201cFirst pressed\u201d \u2013 means the olives were crushed and pressed only one time. Below this figure it is legitimate to doubt about origin and quality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you follow such\nguidance and instructions, then there are no offers, promotions and below\ncosts, which can be included in the definition of EVO.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Therefore, watch out for\nthe harvest year which, if present, reveals that all the olives with which the\noil was made were harvested in the same year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>HOW TO DETERMINE THE PRICE:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Olive grower receives\n4.7 euros for a kilo of oil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The wholesale price then rises to 5.5 euros.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"569\" src=\"http:\/\/smaf-ltd.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Olive-oil-fraud-2-1024x569.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2228\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.smaf-ltd.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Olive-oil-fraud-2-1024x569.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.smaf-ltd.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Olive-oil-fraud-2-300x167.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.smaf-ltd.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Olive-oil-fraud-2-768x427.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.smaf-ltd.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Olive-oil-fraud-2-640x356.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.smaf-ltd.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Olive-oil-fraud-2.jpg 1400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption><strong> No quality, no label<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Once worked by the olive\noil industry the cost rises to 6.67 euros which includes: VAT, salaries of\nthose who work there, marketing and bottle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please, add also the\nprofit of the industry which is around 4% and the GDO margin, on average 15%<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The final price\ntherefore comes to around 8 euros. Lower prices are, sadly, only Community\nblends, potentially frauding!!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>FRAUDS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to a well\nknown research of Mr. Gennaro Sicolo, president of Italia Ovicola (an\norganization that involves 50% of olive growers in Italy), about one bottle out\nof two of extra virgin olive oil contains deodorized oils that are then mixed\nwith Italian oils to give it a bit of flavor and reach the basic chemical and\norganoleptic parameters to be labeled as extra virgin. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;After two months\non the shelf these oils in the panel test can be considered as\nadulterated,&#8221; explains Gennaro Sicolo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But how is this scam happens?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/smaf-ltd.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Olive-oil-fraud-4.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2230\" width=\"411\" height=\"409\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.smaf-ltd.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Olive-oil-fraud-4.jpg 468w, https:\/\/www.smaf-ltd.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Olive-oil-fraud-4-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.smaf-ltd.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Olive-oil-fraud-4-300x300.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 411px) 100vw, 411px\" \/><figcaption><strong>No tag, no quality<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>In Italy the olives are harvested between September and October at the right point of ripeness, with a yield of 10 &#8211; 13 kg of oil per quintal of olives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Spain and Tunisia the\nharvest begins in January, when the raw material is very mature, in order to\nhave a greater yield. But from a very ripe olive an acid oil is born, so that\nto remedy it is mixed with a bit of 100% Italian so as to obtain a light fruity\nthat recalls the normal smell and taste of extra Virgin olive oil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The price of such blend?\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wholesale these\ndeodorized oil lots cost around 2.2-2.4 euros per liter, but to the consumer a\nmixture of such European community oils costs at least 5 euros &#8230; And here\nthis lower price reveal itself as an indicator (certainly not the only one) if\nnot of quality, of the absence of quality!!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>22.6.2019 EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL, INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE The purchase of olive oil is often among the most difficult quotidian activities of housewifes and of everyone who loves the good cuisine.
